Picaresque’s XRTourGuide has been selected as the winner of the Open Call for the Futural european project

We’re delighted to share that XRTourGuide, in collaboration with ISISLab (Department of Computer Science, Università degli Studi di Salerno) and Comunità Montana Bussento–Lambro e Mingardo, has been selected as one of the successful sub-projects in the FUTURAL Open Call: a European initiative supporting smart digital solutions for rural communities.

XRTourGuide intends to enhance cultural tourism in rural areas by facilitating the quick development and deployment of immersive virtual tours. These tours enhance real-life experiences by overlaying augmented reality content powered by XR and AI onto local heritage sites.

Our approach is rooted in participatory design. By collaborating closely with citizens and forming an ARGO working group comprising schools, municipalities, cultural and environmental associations, and tourism operators, we are co-creating use cases that promote community ownership. This ecosystem-driven model aims to boost local economies, raise awareness of cultural heritage and encourage citizen engagement in rural areas.

As an active partner in XRTourGuide, Picaresque is excited to contribute its XR expertise and knowledge of immersive technology to bring this innovative platform to life in rural Italy and beyond.

Stay tuned for updates on pilot deployments within the Comunità Montana and find out how you can support digital learning and cultural engagement for rural communities.
