On July 18, 2025, XRTourGuide marked a significant milestone with its inaugural public event in Futani, hosted at the Aula Consiliare of the Comunità Montana Bussento – Lambro e Mingardo. The event brought together over 80 participants, including local citizens, scholars, administrators, and enthusiasts, all eager to explore the potential of immersive digital tourism in rural areas.
The morning session featured institutional greetings and technical presentations, providing insights into the project’s innovative approach to cultural heritage through extended reality technologies. Discussions centered on the development of immersive virtual tours that enrich real-life experiences by overlaying augmented reality content onto local heritage sites.
A hands-on workshop followed, focusing on co-creating XR content and selecting points of interest for immersive tours. The afternoon session concluded with a roundtable discussion, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in preserving and promoting local culture through digital innovation.
This event marks the beginning of a collaborative journey to develop and implement XR-based solutions that promote sustainable tourism and preserve the rich cultural landscape of the Cilento region.
