After months of intensive development, field testing, and invaluable co-creation with local communities, we are thrilled to announce a major milestone for the FUTURAL project: the XRTourGuide app is now officially available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store!
This public release marks the culmination of a journey that began with a vision to redefine how we experience and preserve cultural and environmental heritage. By bringing Extended Reality (XR) directly to the smartphones of tourists and citizens alike, XRTourGuide transforms standard visits into deeply immersive, interactive journeys. Users can now easily access community-driven digital tours, complete with multimodal content, Augmented Reality features, and multilingual support—all designed to work seamlessly even in areas with low internet connectivity thanks to the offline download feature.
Reaching this stage would not have been possible without the active participation of the territories involved. From the hands-on workshops during the Evaluation Day in Futani to the inspiring seminars in Caggiano, the feedback from students, local institutions, and citizens has been the true driving force behind shaping this application. XRTourGuide is not just a technological tool; it is a collaborative platform where the authentic narratives and unique identities of rural areas are preserved and shared with the world.
